Cy Twombly Jr. (1928–2011) was an influential American painter, sculptor, and photographer known for his distinctive style that combined graffiti-like marks, calligraphic gestures, classical mythology, and poetry. Living much of his life in Italy, he fused the energy of American Abstract Expressionism with the rich cultural history of the Mediterranean.
